Midland Gainesville is the ever growing and blooming urban district just southeast of Downtown. Nicknamed after the Gainesville Midland Railroad, this historic industrial area encompasses the old train railway that is largely credited for the growth of Gainesville in the early 1900’s.
The Midland Greenway walking trails runs through the district as part of the Highlands to Islands Trail, and is paved along the historic trail line pathways through town. Gainesville’s beloved Historic 209 Engine and caboose now sit at the Train Park, developed over the “Wye” where the trains used to change directions coming in and out of town.
Midland’s attractions include the Historic Piedmont Hotel, Gainesville’s newly opened Skate Park, INK Kids Museum, The Historic Chair Factory at “Midland Social”.
